Apple Ready To Unleash OS Advertisement?

Apple Advertisment Patent

Apple Advertisment Patent

Advertisement on the web has become such an understood part of browsing the Internet that we don’t even give it a second thought. How about advertisement when you’re working on the computer? Apple filed a patent on April 18, 2008 for the invention, which allows them to show advertisement inside operating systems, cell phones, PDAs etc.

To further increase the joy of viewing advertisement, Apple’s advertisement patent outlines a way to disable the device while the advertisement is playing. This would require the user to allow the advertisement to run to unlock the device.

If that isn’t enough the Apple’s patent also lays out a scenario in which the user would have to perform an action to ensure they are watching the ad. So, if you thought you could just walk away from the computer while the advertisement plays, think again.

Whether or not Apple is planning on actually using this “invention” is yet to be seen. Maybe this is just a way to keep scrupulous advertisers from engaging in such an invasive form of advertising. This is of course the use most people would prefer Apple to take. Will this new form of invasive advertisement ever pop up? My bet is yes. At least in some form or another. Whether it will be Apple who uses it is another question all together.
