Are you a Dachshund fan? How about wiener dogs? I can’t think of another dog breed that has so many nicknames, and I have been trying the whole time I’ve been sitting here typing to think of one.
One interesting fact about the Dachshund is that while its official English name is German (Dachs, badger + Hund, dog) the Dachshund’s name in German-speaking countries is Dackel. Which might shed some light on one misconception surrounding this dog breed. The Dachshund is often categorized as a hound, which might be do to similarities drawn from the German word Hund (Hund mistakenly translated to hound rather than dog). In fact the Dachshund has traits more closely related to the terrier breeds than it does with hounds. Whether classified as a hound or terrier though fans love the breed because of its virtues rather than what category it is placed in.
