New for Dachshund Fans – Dachshund Retro T-Shirts

Are you a Dachshund fan? How about wiener dogs? I can’t think of another dog breed that has so many nicknames, and I have been trying the whole time I’ve been sitting here typing to think of one.

One interesting fact about the Dachshund is that while its official English name is German (Dachs, badger + Hund, dog) the Dachshund’s name in German-speaking countries is Dackel. Which might shed some light on one misconception surrounding this dog breed. The Dachshund is often categorized as a hound, which might be do to similarities drawn from the German word Hund (Hund mistakenly translated to hound rather than dog). In fact the Dachshund has traits more closely related to the terrier breeds than it does with hounds. Whether classified as a hound or terrier though fans love the breed because of its virtues rather than what category it is placed in.

What an interesting shaped dog the Dachshund is, you can tell I’m not the only one who thinks so with all of the different nicknames this dog breed has collected over the years. My personal favorites would have to be Doxie and weiner dog!

This is another one of our Urban Pop dog portraits, it was painted on a 20″ x 24″ – 50 x 60 cm canvas. The lively colors and unique subject for this portrait made for a wonderful combination.

We have recently added a new breed to our pet art shop. The Dachshund! This unique German dog breed is also nicknamed the wiener dog, I can see why. You will find in the Dachshund section has something for everyone.

The Dachshund has long been a popular dog breed in the US. It is no wonder since these dogs often demonstrate above average intelligence, they are very playful and fun to have around, and above all affectionate. Oh and did I mention their appearance? Once you have seen a Dachshund you will never forget it!
